Alternative Service Breaks

Organize a group from your university and join us for a week of service, learning and cultural immersion during your Fall or Spring break.
Over five days, students get an up-close view of a local microfinance organization, perform direct service through hands-on development projects, and explore the incredible culture and landscape of Oaxaca. ASB collaborations can be curated to fit the needs and interests of the student groups that we work with - take a look at one example itinerary below!
We understand that this type of experience comes with important goals, and will strive to fulfil these in the following ways:
-
Direct service - meet and support women entrepreneurs involved in our micro-finance and business education programs, engaging in workshops such as sign-painting and visual merchandising
-
Cultural immersion - visit family homes, enjoy traditional Zapotec cuisine, observe live demonstrations of artisan crafts, and be guided through local highlights like markets, churches and mountain hikes
-
Learning - hear from our guides and the women themselves about life in the communities and traditional techniques passed from generation to generation
-
Personal development - meet and build friendships with fellow students from all backgrounds, improving communication and leadership skills
-
Reflection - witness first-hand the impacts of uplifting families and communities through female empowerment, offering takeaways for community-led initiatives in your own hometown and beyond
