Experience the traditions of celebrating the Virgin of Guadalupe in Teotitlán del Valle in a way few visitors ever have the chance to see. Spend the day in community, guided by En Vía entrepreneurs open their homes and share their stories. You'll explore the town’s historic church, learn about the Virgin’s symbolism, how her presence reflects identity, and the blending of Catholic and Zapotec life. A highlight of the day is the opportunity to witness La Danza de la Pluma, a dance (unique to Teotitlán del Valle) performed in devotion to the Virgin. You’ll meet women whose families are connected to this tradition, hearing firsthand how the dance shapes their lives. What to expect You’ll visit three women participating in En Vía’s programs, learning about their businesses, their creative practices, and the ways access to microloans and education strengthens their economic independence. You’ll also enjoy an artisanal weaving presentation that brings Teotitlán’s renowned textile culture to life, followed by a homemade lunch prepared in the home of an En Vía entrepreneur. All tour fees directly support En Vía’s interest-free loan and business education programs for women entrepreneurs. Thank you for helping us create opportunities and strengthen communities in the Tlacolula Valley. Important Information: This experience will run with a minimum of 5 participants in total. You don’t need to book as a group — individual signups all count toward that number. We do not take payment at booking. On December 11, we will notify all guests whether the tour has reached the minimum and is moving forward. Payment will only be requested after confirmation.
