Elena González Martínez

Artesanías de Lana & Zapatos

At 73 years old, Elena is a master artisan of traditional Oaxacan wool textiles with a lifetime of experience selling in the local market. While she originally began her business selling shoes sourced from Oaxaca, she recently pivoted to selling rebozos (traditional shawls) with the support of EnVia to recover from a theft of her merchandise. In addition, Elena weaves and sells beautiful rugs, an art form she mastered on her family’s loom when she was just a young girl. Today, her business is empowered by her family. Her daughter supports her in sales and exhibitions, while her son-in-law takes her rugs to other markets to sell them.
