Hermelinda was raised on making tapetes (rugs), and has carried the tradition forward with all her children. She shares a business selling tapetes and running a comedor (eatery) with her daughter, Juanita, who is also her En Vía partner – but Hermelinda hasn't stopped there. She also makes rebozos (shawls), tlacoyales (hair accessories), handbags and traditional aprons, and uses her loans to buy materials such as wool and the apron bases which she then sews and embroiders.
