Josefina Ruíz Contreras

Laxha' Textil

After a 12-year migratory journey selling pottery along the border to save for her dream, Josefina returned to her roots in Teotitlán del Valle to build her home and workshop from scratch. She named her business "Laxha," meaning my town, to honor her heritage. A lifelong weaver, Josefina washed wool in the river at age six and joined a prestigious women's weaving committee at just 13. Today, backed by business courses from EnVía, she has grown her workshop from two inherited looms into a hub of textile innovation, creating everything from botanical prints on agave fiber to avant-garde rugs woven with wool, chicken feathers, and copper.
