San Sebastián Abasolo

San Sebastián Abasolo, officially founded in 1878, has pre-colonial roots with artifacts found in multiple areas of town. A historic site, Danni Yeri hill, is believed to have once connected ancient peoples to Zaachila. Originally part of Tlacochahuaya, the town gradually formed as residents settled to tend farmland. Today, Abasolo is an agricultural community known for producing beans, garlic, chiles de agua, and raising livestock. Many women also make Oaxaca’s traditional queso fresco. Meet 6 of the 15 women in this community.
